Tampa Bay Downs Racetrack History
Tampa Bay Downs was established in 1926 under the masthead Tampa Downs and gradually earned reputation of being one of the most well maintained racetracks. This racetrack has a colorful history. The present owner purchased this track in 1986 and since then the track is improving. There was an addition of 7/8 mile grass track, complete with a ¼ mile chute in 1998 and became one of the most popular turf courses in North America.
This track is the only Thoroughbred racetrack on the West Coast of Florida. Gradually, Tampa Bay Downs incorporated Golf practice facility and Silk card rooms to fetch more revenue. Simulcast racing is broadcast throughout the track and for best viewing, flat-screened plasma and LCD television have been set up in different corners of the field.
